EMC Site Validation

Shielding - NSA - Site VSWR - Field Homogeneity

Kiwa Dare is accredited by the Dutch Accreditation Council (RvA) for EMC Site Validation calibrations. As such we can validate Faraday Cages and Open Area Test Sites (OATS) as well as Anechoic Chambers under accreditation.

RF Calibrations

Kiwa Dare is a renowned laboratory in the field of RF and EMC calibrations. Besides the calibration services for RF instruments like measurement receivers and antenna we offer now accredited site validation services for shielded rooms, anechoic chambers and OATS as well. These services include: Shielding effectiveness, Normalized Site Attenuation (NSA), field homogeneity and Site Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (Site VSWR).

Shielding Effectiveness

Shielding effectiveness measurements are performed in shielded rooms or so called Faraday Cages. These rooms are used to keep electro magnetic (EM) fields in or out the room. Applications for these rooms include measurement chambers, computer rooms and medical shielded rooms, like the ones used for MRI-scanners. The level to which such chambers are shielding EM-fields is represented by the ratio of the field inside and outside the room over a certain frequency band.

Kiwa Dare is accredited for the range between 10 kHz and 18 GHz in conformity with EN 50147-1 en MIL 285 standards.

Normalized Site Attenuation

Normalized Site Attenuation or NSA measurements are performed to validate the performance of anechoic chambers or Open Area Test Sites (OATS). These measurements are performed with horizontal as well as vertical polarized antenna orientation. The measured values over the frequency range of 30 MHz and 1 GHz have to be within the limits prescribed by the standard. Kiwa Dare Services performs NSA validation in conformity with the ANSI C63.4 en CISPR 16-1-4 standards.

Field Homogeneity

Kiwa Dare are often performed in so called anechoic chambers. It is of the utmost importance that the field strength in a certain area (quiet zone, often 2 by 2 meters) is homogeneous. This validation has to be performed before the room can be used for accredited measurements. Kiwa Dare Services is accredited for this validation in the frequency range of 26 MHz to 18 GHz in conformity to EN61000-4-3.

Site-VSWR

The Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) of a room is a relatively new requirement for chambers used above 1 GHz. Every room used for accredited measurements should fulfil the requirements of the standard. The quality of the absorbers and the part of the wall surface that is actually covered with absorbers is the main contributor to the fulfilment of this requirement. Kiwa Dare Services is accredited for Site VSWR validations in the frequency range from 1 GHz to 18 GHz in conformity with CISPR 16-1-4.

EMC and RF Calibrations

Kiwa Dare aims to perform EMC and RF calibrations under accreditation. Recently Antenna-calibrations as well as ESD validations and calibrations of measurement receivers including CISPR detectors were added to the scope. The expansion of the scope with EMC site validation services is a welcome completion of our service offering.

All over Europe!

Kiwa Dare performs RF and EMC calibrations for renowned companies and institutes in the industry all over Europe and Turkey. Our calibration services are represented in each country in Europe by a network of professional partners.

References

"We used Kiwa Dare for the calibration of our whole EMC test and measurement equipment as well as for the measurement of the shielding effectiveness and normalised site attenuation of our 3m semi-anechoic chamber. Their service and staff is very professional, friendly and serious with an important background of experience. They can offer a broad scope of RVA-accredited calibrations for high frequencies. Their quotation is very detailed and their prices are highly competitive. They have even a service to personally collect and bring back our (sensitive) instruments. This was very important for us, as we made bad experiences in the past with third party shippers as the instruments came sometimes back damaged. I am convinced by their service, that I want to use them for future calibrations."
